This tip demonstrates how to take backup of your important files by running a simple batch file. Open a notepad and type the lines given below and save the notepad as backup.bat and double click to run the .bat file to take backup.
“Copy the below four lines and save as backup.bat”
xcopy /W /E /H /R /Y “D:\FOLDER1” “D:\BACKUP”
You can replace the source and backup location as per your choice. In the above example I have specified “D:\FOLDER1” as the source directory and “D:\BACKUP” as the destination directory.
Let’s say you are taking backup for Windows live mail.
Open Windows live mail Go to Menu – Option – Mail – Advanced – Maintenance –Store folder
Copy the folder’s path address as this will be source for which you want backup.
Next step – Create another folder e.g. “Mail_Backup” in other drive as this will be your backup location.
Below is the modified .bat file for taking backup of Windows live mail
xcopy /W /E /H /R /Y “C:\Users\testuser\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail” “D:\Mail_Backup”
